Well-being of children born after medically assisted reproduction

Abstract Background The increasing number and proportion of children born after medically assisted reproduction (MAR) has raised concerns motivated research about the impact MAR on well-being development children. Objective We summarize existing studies conceived through MAR. Materials methods Review studies. Results Children are at increased risk adverse birth outcomes such as low birthweight preterm delivery compared to naturally higher rates multiple births amongst MAR-conceived continue represent an important driving factor behind these disparities. Reassuringly, elective single embryo transfer (eSET)—which is associated with more favourable pregnancy among children—is becoming common. Despite early life health disadvantages, evidence later physical, cognitive psychosocial generally reassuring. On average, show similar or better than selected advantaged socioeconomic characteristics parents who conceive likely play role in explaining why, perform children—particularly terms outcomes.
